About Our Platform
More than a website — a living platform where visitors, archaeologists, and history enthusiasts connect, share, and build collective knowledge about one of the most important sites in human history.
The Göbeklitepe Community is an independent platform built by and for people who are captivated by this 12,000-year-old site in southeastern Turkey. We are not a standard tourism guide — we are a community that connects real people around a shared fascination.
Our platform lets you find travel companions heading to the site at the same time as you, book guides who have been vetted and rated by fellow members, contribute your own photos and knowledge to a growing collective archive, and join discussions about the archaeology, the history, and the experience of visiting.
We built this because we believe the best travel advice comes from people who have actually been there, and the deepest understanding comes from collaborative learning. No algorithm or guidebook can match the value of a community that genuinely cares.
Standard tourism websites give you facts. We wanted to build something that gives you connection, shared knowledge, and a community of like-minded travellers.
Visiting one of the most remote and significant archaeological sites on Earth is a powerful experience — and it is even better when shared. Our companion-matching feature connects solo travellers, families, and groups who want to explore together.
Our community knowledge base is curated by hundreds of contributors: amateur archaeologists, repeat visitors, academics, and enthusiastic first-timers. Together they have built something no single author could produce — a living, evolving understanding of the site.
Every travel tip, guide recommendation, and photo on this platform comes from someone who has actually been there. No sponsored content, no generic copy. Just honest, community-sourced guidance from people who share your passion.

From a small group of enthusiasts to a thriving international community — here is how we grew alongside the ongoing discoveries at the site.
A group of repeat visitors and archaeology enthusiasts realised that the best information about the site lived in scattered forums and private conversations. They decided to build a single platform to bring it all together.
The community platform launched with a knowledge base, photo gallery, and discussion forums. The first 200 members joined within weeks, many contributing travel tips and site photographs from their own visits.
Responding to member requests, we introduced the travel companion feature. Solo travellers could now find like-minded visitors planning trips to the same dates. The feature proved immediately popular.
Members began rating and reviewing local guides, creating a trusted directory of community-vetted professionals. This became one of the most-used features on the platform.
The community crossed 1,000 active members spanning over 50 countries. The knowledge base grew to include detailed enclosure-by-enclosure guides, seasonal packing lists, and multi-day itineraries.
As discoveries at Karahantepe and other sister sites accelerated, our community expanded its coverage to the entire Stone Hills region. Members began contributing comparative analyses and multi-site trip reports.
The community now spans 65+ countries with thousands of shared photos, hundreds of knowledge base articles, and an active companion-matching system that connects new travellers every week.
Whether you have visited a dozen times or are just beginning to learn about the site, there is a place for you here. Join and start connecting with fellow enthusiasts today.
